Bongani Fassie goes on a meltdown at Fourways apartment
The women reportedly accompanied Fassie home after a night out but clashed with him when they attempted to leave.
Security personnel at the estate told ZiMoja:
“These young ladies wanted to go back to their homes, but Bongani refused to release them. Things got wild when they insisted on leaving.”
Witnesses claimed Fassie, who is the son of late icon Brenda Fassie, became aggressive, pulling wigs off the women and threatening violence.
The situation escalated when Fassie reportedly broke bottles, stripped off his clothes, and began chasing neighbours around the estate.
His erratic behaviour left tenants terrified, with one informant saying:
“We’ve never seen such rage.”
Police were called to intervene but were unable to charge him, advising that he be addressed “when sobre.”
Bongani’s history of excessive drug abuse
This latest incident has reignited concerns about Fassie’s well-documented struggles with addiction and mental health.
Over the years, the former Jozi member and award-winning producer has opened up about his battles with substance abuse and depression, tracing many of his struggles to the trauma of losing his mother in 2004.
In his 2021 reality show, Finding Bongani, he revealed:
“I almost died three times from attempting to take my own life.”
Diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and PTSD, Fassie admitted that his use of drugs and alcohol became a coping mechanism.
Fassie also spoke of the strain of living in the shadow of his mother’s legacy, recounting how allegations about Brenda Fassie’s death being linked to drugs deeply affected him.
“People speculated that she overdosed, but I have the death certificate. Her death was due to cardiac arrest,” he clarified.
While Fassie has expressed a desire to turn his life around, Monday’s events have left neighbours concerned for his three children, who were reportedly present during the altercation.
An eyewitness revealed, “The kids were screaming and crying as they watched their father’s meltdown. It’s heartbreaking.”
