Green energy gasheads were thrilled on Tuesday, when US manufacturer Subaru premiered the official unveiling of the Solterra all-electric SUV.
Subaru Solterra all-electric SUV: The features
Staying true to its brand as a rugged off-road utility vehicle, Subaru, in partnership with Toyota, developed the next generation of super all-ectric vehicles (EV).
The model sports exterior designs inspired by Toyota’s bZ4X EV, with a Subaru signature aesthetic that features the brand’s renowned round fog lights, a larger lower grille and plenty horsepower.
As reported by electrek.com, the Solterra all-electric SUV has an energy storage capacity of 71.4 kWh, giving drivers about 460km of range.
While this is a few hundred kilometres short of the Tesla Model S‘ range, it still meets Japan’s WLTC (World harmonised Light-duty vehicles Test Cycles) standard.
Moreover, the SUV is equipped with a motor with a max cap of 150kW (all-wheel drive version has 80kW motor on each axle) and according to Toyota, the Solterra can reach 80% charging capacity in as little as 30 minutes.
Here is the official trailer of the manufacturer’s EV.
When is Subaru all-electric SUV release date?
Subaru has not released information on the scheduled launch date of its first-ever all-electric SUV. However, indications have surfaced hinting at a mid-2022 global release.
“The Subaru Solterra electric SUV – the natural evolution of Subaru all-weather, all-road performance – is scheduled to go on sale in 2022,” is the latest update from the manufacturer.
Subaru 2023 Solterra price in South Africa
At this time, it is too early in the roll out to know the definitive price attached to the 2023 Solterra. However, experts have leaned on the pricing of Toyota’s bZ4X as a safe estimate to assume.
Therefore, South Africans should budget at least R568 000 (or $37 000) for a 2023 Subaru Solterra all-electric SUV, according to caranddriver.com.
