Miss South Africa (Miss SA 2020) may have kicked off on a rocky start but things have progressed well and tonight, the pageant has published the Top 15 contestants.
Miss SA 2020 soldiers on amid Covid-19
The pageant’s rebranding — following the momentous victory of Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi last year — has allowed for a seamless transition into an age ruled by the coronavirus (Covid-19).
Whether or not the deadly pathogen was coming this year, Miss SA 2020 was set for a restructuring in the pageant’s application process.
To cast the net wider than ever before, the pageant loosened up on its prerequisites and allowed hopefuls to submit their applications on social media.
“We had already streamlined our entry process last year when we went online so nothing really has changed with lockdown. We will be searching for talented young women throughout the country. Our main goal is to bring about hope and showcase women empowerment through the Miss South Africa platform and we believe that in any format this will be something that the whole country will get behind.”
Stephanie Weil, Miss SA CEO
What is the pageant looking for this year?
Tunzi’s monumental victory that spurred on a universal conquest changed everything about what the world looks for in a Miss SA queen.
That’s why this time around, the rules of the book have changed and the prototype has been thrown out the window.
Going into the announcement on Wednesday, the Top 35 substantiated the latter. The diverse group of pageant hopefuls were handpicked from all corners of Mzansi and it packed a healthy range of beauty in South Africa.
