Big Brother Mzansi is officially accepting submissions for its upcoming season and one crucial deciding factor for the next step of the process is submitting an intriguing audition tape.
Big Brother Mzansi: How to apply
The third instalment of South Africa’s favourite reality TV competition is on the way and on Tuesday, Multichoice confirmed that online applications are now open until Saturday 6 November at 17:00.
Producers of the show will be expecting thousands of entries from South African hopefuls who want a taste of the adult life in the infamous Big Brother mansion.
For applicants who want to give it a go on the third season of Big Brother Mzansi, here is a guide on the application process.
Application process
There are four stages to complete in the first application for consideration on the show. First, applicants must accept terms of use (this is a declaration from the applicant that they fully understand and agree with the terms and conditions of participating in the reality TV show) before they can proceed to the next part of the process.
The profile section is where applicants will fill out their personal information. It is crucial to ensure that contact information is accurate since this is what producers will rely on to reach out to those who’ve qualified for the next round of the audition.
Also, the show requires applicants to submit a short written biography as well as image files (JPG) of a valid South African ID and a portrait image. Both attachments must not be bigger than 20MB. The show also requires applicants to indicate their vaccination status.
The video section is where applicants will have to submit their audition tape and guidelines on this can be found further down this article. Once all four sections have been populated with the required information, the application can be submitted.
Interviews
According to Multichoice, successful applicants from the first phase will be contacted by email no later than Sunday 28 November 2021. The next phase will be a video interview with producers of the show.
Applicants who impress during the video interviews will be contacted and according to Big Brother, they “must be willing and able to travel to Johannesburg at a time as scheduled by the producer in its sole discretion for the final selection process.”
Documents
In order to increase your chances of making it into Big Brother’s mansion, there are a number of important documents you must submit within the application timeframe.
A valid South African ID or document proving that permanent residency was obtained as early as 1 October 2021 is, perhaps, the biggest dealbreaker.
Here is a list of the other documents that may be required (these are due before the semi-final round of interviews):
- A completed psychiatric examination questionnaire
- Medical history form
- Other documents proving your identity if need be (birth certificate, passport etc.)
- Participant Form Package
- Psychological assessment
- Medical assessment (including blood and urine tests)
- Confidentiality agreement (including those for your immediate family members)
- Caretaker agreement
- Physical and psychological examinations
The show will also conduct civil, criminal, and any other type of background checks deemed necessary by the producer.
How to submit your Big Brother Mzansi audition tape
Apart from the important documents applicants must have, the audition tape is, perhaps, the major deciding factor in the first round of the application process.
For the video submission, applicants must submit a tape telling producers about themselves and motivate for why they should be in the house this season.
Here is a technical guide on submitting the audition tape:
- The size of the video must not exceed 100MB
- The file size of the video must be: .mov, .flv, .f4v, .m4v, .mp4, .avi, .mpeg, .mpg, .mkv, .wmv
- The video must be uploaded on the application form and via YouTube/Vimeo. This means that the audition tape must be uploaded on either streaming service and the link must be pasted in the application.
- Any additional links you may want to include in your application (Instagram page, portfolios etc.)
At this time, it’s unclear when the third season of Big Brother Mzansi is scheduled to premiere. However, from what we understand, the reality TV show is most certainly set for an early 2022 return.
