Chynna Rogers will be remembered by those who knew her as a spark that deserved more time to shine.
Hip Hop loses another rising star
The 25-year-old Philadelphia native, a renowned lyricist and rising rapstress, was found dead on Wednesday. In a statement sent to The Wrap, her manager John Miller confirmed the news.
“I can regrettably confirm Chynna passed away,” the statement read.
Miller was careful to not reveal any information around Rogers’ cause of death. At this point, it’s also not clear which city her body was found.
Rogers was from Philly but she lived in Brooklyn. Miller could not help with this either, only stating that “Chynna was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.”
Chynna Rogers: What we know about her
An enigma to mainstream music, Chynna Rogers is ironically getting the acclaim she deserved posthumously. Listening to some of her works was the only way we were able to get her perspective on who she was.
The 25-year-old wore her heart on her sleeve. Her lyrical themes always departed from the self and her awareness always shone through her hard-hitting, 90s-influenced bars.
She was destined to be discovered, it was just always a matter of time. When she was 14, for instance, Rogers was scouted by Ford Models. This seemingly random encounter with a scout at New Jersey’s Six Flags Great Adventure turned into a full-blown model experience.
According to Hollywood Life, her short stint in modelling saw her grace the New York Fashion Week runway and in 2015, star in a DKNY campaign which featured in Vogue and Elle magazine.
Rogers would not start rapping until she — yet again — was discovered by A$AP Yamz, the brainchild of the A$AP Mob. However, Yamz’ untimely passing may have come too early in the 25-year-old’s development.
Alas, she kept pushing and created her own buzz with releases like Selfie, Glen Coco and mixtapes such as music 2 die 2 and the in case i die first EP.
Rogers was on the cusp of a major discovery and to those she touched, her passing was most definitely untimely.
