Former Love Island host, 40-year-old Caroline Flack, was found dead at her London home on Saturday 15 February.
As reported by E! News, Flack’s death was confirmed by her family who, in a statement, pleaded with the media for privacy at this difficult time.
“We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th [of] February. We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time,” the statement read.
Who was Caroline Flack?
The 40-year-old British celebrity rose to stardom when she appeared as a host on the popular reality TV show, Love Island, a revival of a mid-00s series, in 2015.
Prior to this, Flack starred on Bo’ Selecta! between 2002 and 2004; hosted the European Poker Tour in 2005 as well as the reality TV show Escape from Scorpion Island in 2007; two years later, she spearheaded the popular British show I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! NOW!
What’s the cause of Flack’s death?
The details surrounding the death of Flack are still sketchy at this time. The 40-year-old stepped down from Love Island in December 2019, after four years at the job.
Her exit from the show was linked to her arrest for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, professional tennis player Lewis Burton. Flack entered a not guilty plea and her trial was set to kick off in March 2020.
During this period, it is believed that Flack struggled with depression, caused by the ruthless British media — according to Burton.
“I’m tired of the lies and abuse aimed at my girlfriend. This is not a witch hunt this is someone’s life. Caroline is the most lovely girl. Loyal and kind. She doesn’t deserve any of this,” he once wrote on Instagram.
Burton’s relationship with Flack was rocky, to say the least. However, on the eve of her passing, the tennis player dedicated Valentine’s Day to the 40-year-old, on his Instagram Story.
The star’s cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
This is a developing story.
