If a confession is something The Weeknd was expecting from Usher, he ought to think twice.
Usher vs The Weeknd: Where it all started
The R&B star took to his Instagram Stories to illustrate why he’s the king of falsetto.
While he didn’t exchange any direct words to The Weeknd, Usher was performing a rendition of Climax his 2012 smash hit.
Surely this couldn’t have been a throwback because the IG story was uploaded on Wednesday.
So, why exactly was Usher singing his hit single and why is social media in tatters because of his perceived pettiness?
Well, here’s the thing. If anything, The Weeknd, whose After Hours album rollout was marred by the raging coronavirus outbreak, asked for this kind of energy.
Abel claims Climax sounds like a Weeknd song
He tugged at Usher first, hinting that the Atlanta icon had stolen his vocal style in a recent Variety insert.
” I heard Climax, that Usher song, and was like, ’Holy f**k, that’s a Weeknd song’. It was very flattering. I knew I was doing something right, but I also got angry. But the older I got, I realised it’s a good thing, ” he said.
Watch: Usher furnishes a response to The Weeknd
Usher’s response to this was as petty as his breakup on Confessions Part Two.
The 41-year-old crooner took the time to interact with people who were partaking in the ’climax challenge’.
For the sake of being the petty king he is, Usher chimed in with a rendition of his own song, wearing a smirk on his face, as if he were directing that storey to someone in particular.
Whether that person is The Weeknd, is left to speculation.
You can watch the video in it’s entirety below. As far as we know, The Weeknd has yet to offer a response.
This would make for a meaty R&B face-off if the two are competitive enough to come forward for a ’falsetto duel’ overseen by Swizz Beats and Timbaland.
