Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing a woman who accused rapper and mogul Jay-Z of rape, has remained conspicuously silent following his client’s admission of inconsistencies in her allegations.
Jay-Z reacts to rape accuser doubling back on allegations
The high-profile lawsuit, filed against both Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs, claimed that the alleged assault occurred over two decades ago when the accuser was just 13 years old.
However, significant gaps in her story have led to public scrutiny and a sharp rebuke from Jay-Z and his legal team.
Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, issued a pointed statement addressing the situation, calling Buzbee’s actions a blatant pursuit of “money and fame.” Carter said,
“This incident didn’t happen and yet he filed it in court and doubled down in the press. True Justice is coming. We fight FROM victory, not FOR victory. This was over before it began.”
The accuser initially alleged that she was taken to a party in a limousine by an associate of Combs and assaulted at a private residence.
However, her recollection of the location, the transportation, and the events of the night have all come under question.
Eyewitness testimony and photographic evidence have contradicted elements of her claims, including her father’s assertion that he has no memory of picking her up as she alleged.
Amid these revelations, Buzbee, known for his involvement in high-profile cases, has yet to issue a follow-up statement addressing the emerging contradictions.
The attorney previously defended his client, stressing the difficulty of recalling traumatic events from decades ago and stating that his team was continuing to “vet her claims.”
Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, described the lawsuit as a baseless attempt to tarnish the rapper’s reputation.
“It is stunning that a lawyer would not only file such a serious complaint without proper vetting but would make things worse by further peddling this false story in the press,” Spiro said.
He confirmed that Jay-Z’s team is requesting the court dismiss the case and indicated that they plan to pursue disciplinary action against Buzbee and the lawyers involved.
Spiro’s comments echo the frustrations voiced by Carter himself, who has maintained his innocence and dismissed the lawsuit as a frivolous attack on his character.
While Buzbee’s silence has fuelled speculation, the case remains active, and the accuser has reportedly agreed to take a polygraph test to support her claims.
