The streets are abuzz with the news that Kanye West is rap music’s latest billionaire. Chicago’s very own has amassed an empire with his Yeezy apparel and sneaker brand and next to the social and reality TV magnate that is his wife Kim Kardashian, the Wests are a force to be reckoned with.
Forbes values Kanye West as a billionaire
The world of music and entertainment, which are Kanye’s roots, have embraced the amazing achievement Ye has accomplished with his fashion career.
We all called him crazy for butting heads with the ‘establishment’ and placing his genius above Walt Disney and Picasso. Well, the 42-year-old sure has the last laugh because Forbes has confirmed that based on their financial evaluations, Ye is a billionaire.
It’s hard to figure out what’s more amazing, the fact that Kanye West achieved billy status nine years sooner than his estranged idol Jay Z, or the fact that he dragged Forbes for purposefully marginalising his monumental accomplishments because of his race.
The combined net worth of Kanye and Kim Kardashian
According to Zack O’Malley Greenburg, the author of the viral feature piece, Ye has kept a bitter grudge against the publication for ‘snubbing’ him in the recently published billionaires’ list.
It’s a bitter pill he refused to swallow and to rub it in the face of his critics, Ye granted Greenburg access to his empire’s financial records.
“At one point, he texted that Forbes was ‘purposely a part of a group of media’ that was trying to suppress his self-made narrative because of his race. That sister-in-law Kylie Jenner did make the list also clearly stuck in his craw,” Greenburg wrote.
Ye’s billionaire status is pretty clear but the contention that remains is how much his valuation is. Based on Forbes’ estimations, Kanye’s net worth currently floats in the range of $1.3 billion (R24.7 billion). However, the Chitown native vehemently disagrees:
“It’s not a billion. It’s $3.3 billion since no one at Forbes knows how to count,” he wrote in a scathing text message.
While the exact net worth of the star is a subject of debate, one thing is explicitly clear: Kim Kardashian adds a lot of weight to whatever Ye brings to the table.
The respected publication has valued the reality TV queen’s net worth at a whopping $350 million (R6.6 billion). This may be a tad bit too low to sit at the table with her husband and her baby sister Kylie Jenner but at least she is a billionaire in the southern hemisphere.
