Piers Morgan, a polarising British anchor and die-hard Gunner, has found himself without a job at Good Morning Britain (GMB), following his recent tirade on Duchess Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Comments Piers Morgan made about Meghan Markle
Shortly after CBS premiered the two-hour sit-down between Markle, her husband Prince Harry and Winfrey, the online world was ablaze with furore targeted at Buckingham Palace.
For the first time, outsiders looking into the life of the Duchess found out, from the horses’ mouth, the extent of the torment she suffered under the authoritative control of The Firm.
Perhaps, more gob-smacking was the admission Markle made that, at some point in her residency at the Palace, she had contemplated taking her own life. The mental anguish Markle described is unfathomable but, for Morgan, what we were witnessing was a mere theatrical performance from a Hollywood actress.
“Meghan & Harry’s nauseating two-hour Oprah whine-athon was a disgraceful diatribe of cynical race-baiting propaganda designed to damage the Queen as her husband lies in hospital – and destroy the Monarchy,” he scathingly reacted.
Morgan’s scoffing of Markle’s truth about her mental health received wide-scale backlash, forcing the Good Morning Britain anchor to huddle back and choose his words carefully.
GMB bids sombre farewell to Morgan
However, this wasn’t enough. A back-and-forth bickering with his co-hosts ended in Morgan storming off the live broadcast and returning later to finish his job.
The mounting pressure stayed on him until, on Wednesday, he issued a statement announcing his ‘Pierxit’ from the show with some wise words from Winston Churchill about “dying on the hill for truth”.
On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions. pic.twitter.com/bv6zpz4Roe

Longtime co-host Susanne Reid made these comments about Morgan shortly after his announcement.

High profile celebrities who have defended Piers Morgan
The world has celebrated ‘Pierxit’. For many, Morgan leaving GMB is the karma Markle needed to call it even with the anchor. However, in the midst of the cheers, a number of high profile celebrities have surfaced in support of a man who has been termed a bigot amongst other things.
These are just some of the celebrities who are pro-Piers.
. @piersmorgan I am with you. I stand by you. People forget that you’re paid for your opinion and that you’re just speaking your truth.

Well, @GMB has been the expected shambles this morning without @piersmorgan. Clear lack of direction and conviction, no idea where to go with the royal story and presenters having no clue what segment is up next at times.

The British public getting it right again (not that you’ll hear this view presented anywhere on the broadcast media outside of the now departed Piers Morgan). pic.twitter.com/6Wigsw7f6J
