Netflix has released a teaser for the highly anticipated fifth and final season of YOU, set to premiere on 29 April 2025.
Watch: ‘YOU’ Season 5 teaser
The new teaser offers a glimpse into Joe Goldberg’s return to New York, where he appears to be living the perfect life alongside Kate Lockwood.
However, as past seasons have shown, Joe’s attempts at a fresh start rarely go as planned.
Penn Badgley, who reprises his role as Joe, teased that the final season will bring the character full circle.
“Every season, they manage to find new ways to make it interesting and relevant,” he told Tudum.
“Coming back to where it started allows for a spectacular finish.”
Netflix’s teaser hints at the return of past characters who have unfinished business with Joe, though their identities remain under wraps. Clips from previous seasons suggest that figures like Ellie (Jenna Ortega) and Dr Nicky (John Stamos) could resurface.
The trailer also reveals a darker tone, showing Joe struggling with the contrast between his carefully curated new life and the monstrous past he cannot outrun.
What to expect from the season finale
The final season picks up three years after Joe and Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) left London for New York.
Kate is now the CEO of Lockwood Corporation, while Joe—under a new alias—has been embraced by the city’s elite as her charming husband. However, Joe’s past is set to collide with his present, especially as he takes on the role of a bookstore owner, bringing him back to his literary roots.
Executive producer Michael Foley confirmed that the show’s creators always envisioned ending at five seasons.
“We always said we would stop after five and, in a perfect world, bring Joe back to New York,” Foley stated.
“At the core of our final story is the clash between the old and the new Joe.”
Joe will also cross paths with Bronte (Madeline Brewer), a free-spirited playwright who challenges his perception of himself.
Meanwhile, his in-laws, including Teddy Lockwood (Griffin Matthews) and the cutthroat Lockwood twins (Anna Camp), could become formidable obstacles.
The season will explore how Joe handles being famous for the first time, with social media now tracking his every move. Showrunner Justin W.
Lo explained:
“In previous seasons, Joe was always able to move around unnoticed. Now, with his high-profile marriage, that anonymity is gone.”
The teaser hints at a major confrontation, suggesting that someone from Joe’s past will return to expose him. With his history of deceit, manipulation, and murder, the question is not whether Joe will slip up—but rather when.
Netflix has promised an intense and unpredictable final chapter, ensuring that YOU closes out with the high-stakes tension that made it a global hit.
