Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez have been directed to undergo co-parenting therapy sessions to address their ongoing conflicts and improve their ability to co-parent their nine-year-old son, Maceo.
Why the court ordered Halle Berry to attend parenting classes
According to court documents first seen by Entertainment Tonight, the therapy sessions, led by Dr Jaye-Jo Portanova, require both parents to participate in at least six joint meetings after an initial individual session.
The main goal of these sessions is to help the former couple find ways to resolve disputes and conflicts in a manner that prioritises Maceo’s best interests.
Interestingly, Berry’s current partner, Van Hunt, may also attend these sessions with her, pending Dr Portanova’s approval.
After the initial six sessions, Dr Portanova will review their progress and determine if additional therapy is necessary.
The sessions are confidential, ensuring that Dr Portanova cannot be called as a witness in future court proceedings.
The court’s decision to mandate parenting classes likely stems from the prolonged conflict between Berry and Martinez, which the court views as harmful to their co-parenting efforts.
These sessions aim to create a more cooperative dynamic, ensuring Maceo’s well-being remains the priority.
Olivier Martinez to receive child support
In addition to the parenting classes, Halle Berry has been ordered to pay $8,000 (est. R149,509) a month in child support to Olivier Martinez.
Moreover, she is required to pay 4.3% of any income she earns over $2 million (est. R37.4 million), meaning that any significant financial gains will result in additional payments to Martinez.
Berry is also responsible for covering Maceo’s private school tuition, uniforms, supplies, and extracurricular activities.
Additionally, Berry has voluntarily contributed around $55,000 towards Martinez’s legal fees.
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez relationship history
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez’s relationship began on the set of the film Dark Tide in 2010.
Their chemistry quickly blossomed, leading to their engagement in March 2012 and a wedding in France in July 2013. In October 2013, they welcomed their son, Maceo.
However, their relationship soon faced challenges. By 2015, reports of marital issues surfaced, and they filed for divorce in October of that year, citing irreconcilable differences.
Despite the split, the couple’s legal battles over custody and child support continued for years.
Berry’s custody struggles are not new. She also has a 16-year-old daughter, Nahla, with ex-partner Gabriel Aubry, and their relationship saw its own share of legal disputes over custody and support.
