The shocking video, obtained by CNN, shows Sean “Diddy” Combs physically assaulting Cassie Ventura, dragging and kicking her in a Los Angeles hotel.
This footage has provoked strong reactions across the industry and from political figures.
Mayor Eric Adams, who awarded Diddy the Key to the City in 2023, expressed his deep disturbance over the video.
He stated:
“The committee and team have never rescinded a key before, but we are now sitting down to see what the next steps forward are going to be. We are taking everything under analysis and the team will come back to me with a final determination.”
In addition to the mayor’s response, several other figures have voiced their condemnation.
Shyne, a politician and leader of the Opposition in the Belize House of Representatives, denounced Diddy’s actions in a public statement.
“I vehemently denounce the repugnant behaviour of Sean Diddy Combs captured on the video in which he is seen physically assaulting Mrs Cassie Ventura-Fine,” he said. “There is no place for violence against women anywhere on the planet,” he said.
Has Diddy said anything about the 2016 surveillance footage?
In the wake of the video’s release, Diddy issued an apology acknowledging his inexcusable behaviour. “I was f**ked up,” he admitted.
“I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses. My behaviour in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video,” Diddy said.
Despite his apology, the footage has had significant repercussions.
Cassie filed a lawsuit against Diddy in November 2023, accusing him of rape, acts of violence, and both mental and physical abuse during their decade-long relationship.
The lawsuit detailed numerous instances of abuse, including the incident captured in the 2016 video.
REVOLT, the media company Diddy founded, also released a statement addressing the video.
“We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the recent video circulating of our former chairman, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs,” the company said.
“Even with his recent separation from REVOLT, it is still our duty to address this matter and recognize the direct impact it has on our staff, our audience, and the culture we represent.”
The company reiterated its commitment to standing against domestic abuse and supporting victims.
“REVOLT stands in solidarity with all who have been a victim of abuse and remains committed to upholding the values and integrity our community expects from us.”
