Louis Vuitton will pay its respects to the late Virgil Abloh in the biggest way feasible when the high-end fashion brand unveils the Spring/Summer 2022 menswear collection this month.
Louis Vuitton SS22 Mens collection: How to watch live
LV recruited Abloh in March 2018 as head of menswear. The aim was to reimagine the brand with Abloh’s incredible genius that saw his haute street wear label Off-White compete with staple luxury giants at the highest level.
In a statement released by LV following the news of the 41-year-old’s passing, Chairman Michael Burke described Abloh as “one of the best cultural communicators of our times.”
“He paved the way for future generations. As a devoted supporter of his community through his charities and passions, he was an eternal optimist who believed anything was possible<‘ Burke wrote.
To commemorate his life and immense contributions to fashion and design, LV will “proudly continue to celebrate his legacy with a final show in Miami, per his wishes.”
The Louis Vuitton SS22 Mens presentation will take place at the Miami Marine Stadium on Tuesday 30 November 2021 from 11:30.
The occasion will be streamed live from LV’s social media channels.
Tributes pour in for Virgil Abloh
News of the 41-year-old’s death has yet to settle in for many of his friends and proteges. Virgil Abloh was pronounced dead on Sunday after a two-year-long battle with a rare form of cancer known as cardiac angiosarcoma.
According to the National Cancer Institute, angiosarcoma develops in the inner lining of blood vessels and lymph vessels. In Abloh’s case, the cancer developed within one or more chambers of his heart, affecting its ability to sufficiently pump blood.
“For over two years, Virgil valiantly battled a rare, aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma. He chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019, undergoing numerous challenging treatments, all while helming several significant institutions that span fashion, art, and culture,” a family statement posted on his social media channels read.
Tributes have continued to pour in for Abloh, who will be remembered for the immense impact he has had on urban fashion.
