University of Cape Town‘s vice chancellor Mamokgethi Phakeng took leave from sexual assault issues faced by her campus’ SRC leadership to partake in the buzz around SONA 2022 (State of the Nation Address).
Mamokgethi Phakeng still fits into her grad dress from 2002
The 55-year-old sent social media into a frenzy when she posted a picture wearing in a custom-made Stoned Cherrie dress she donned at her PhD graduation, 20 years ago.
Shockingly, the dress, designed by Khensani Nkosi, is still a perfect fit!
Folks speculated that this was Phakeng’s outfit for SONA 2022 but the vice-chancellor quickly shot down those claims, making it clear that she was, in no way, planning to attend the annual Parliamentary occasion.
Today am wearing my 2002 PhD graduation outfit. So impressed that 20yrs later the outfit still fits. More impressive is that the outfit still rocks! It is a Stoned cherrie creation by Khensani Nkosi. Talk about consistency! #buylocal No worries am not attending #SONA2022 pic.twitter.com/77mnhyTOVF

In fact, Phakeng had better things to do. The 55-year-old professor led the sixth annual breakfast of Heads of Mission of the University of Cape Town, an occasion the tertiary uses “to reach out to its international partners, and entrench and celebrate its presitigious global status.”
