Kanye West was not too thrilled about the celebration of Yeezy Day. Yeezy day is a brand-created holiday for the Adidas-Yeezy line, which takes place on 2 August every year.
Kanye West claims Adidas did not have his approval for Yeezy Day
Everyone knows that Kanye is one to speak his mind when it comes to something that makes him unhappy. Ye will always make sure that his voice is heard, both on and off stage.
In a direct message sent to Complex on Instagram, West did not hold back. “Adidas made up the Yeezy Day idea without my agreement,” West said in an attempt to express his distaste for the event.
If you think the fashion designer stopped there, think again. In addition, West claimed that the company employed staff for the line—including the general manager, and re-released older Adidas Yeezy styles and colours without his consent.
West also mentioned his ongoing collaborations with Balenciaga and Gap. He claimed that Adidas slowed production of the casual sneakers he and Balenciaga’s creative director, Demna Gvasalia, designed for Gap. This comes after the fact that the footwear did not violate his contract with the Three Stripes.
The rapper continued by saying that when he approached Adidas about producing more pairs of his wildly popular Yeezy Slides, the brand said “they didn’t have the capacity.” This was referring to the Three Stripes’ new Adilette 22 Slides, about which he complained in June 2022. Ye claimed the slides to be fake and a copy of his very own creation.
Yeezy Day launched in 2019, and since then, the brand has saved some of its most exciting Yeezy releases for the occasion.
This year’s most anticipated drop of the event was the “Turtle Dove” Yeezy Boost 350. This will be the first time the shoe has returned to stores since 2015.
Adidas gave fans a teaser of what was to come by confirming that the “Utility Black” Yeezy 450 was set to be released during the day-long event.
Adidas is yet to comment on the situation.
