The 2022 Met Gala returned for another year, and the world’s biggest celebrities brought the glitz and glam to fashion’s most-prominent red carpet.

What is the Met Gala?

The event, without fail, sparks heated debate on social media every year, with fans pitted against each other over who executed the night’s theme better.

Sure, the Met Gala is a night where celebrities are tasked with pulling off mouth-dropping looks for the red carpet experience, but this is not what the event is truly about.

In fact, the Met Gala is a fundraising event held on the first Monday of May, in honour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.

The high-fashion fundraiser was launched in 1948 by founder of New York Fashion Week and iconic publicist Eleanor Lambert. Today, the Gala is overseen by a board chaired by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Wintour is responsible for the benefit committee and the notorious guest list, which can hold up to 700 invitees.
