What started out as a suggestion, piggy-backed on the hype of the #KFCCouple trend, has morphed into a Fees For All Mega concert that could benefit students who are drowning in tertiary-related debt.
What is the Fees For All concert about?
AKA, one of South-Ah’s (colloquial for South Africa, termed by the man himself) most prolific musicians, retorted the hype around the KFC Couple — long story short: a man proposed to his partner at a KFC and the online world sponsored his entire existence — with:
“Let’s tag all those brands and companies who donated to that lovely couple. I want to do a free concert. All proceeds go to alleviating student debt.”
Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, Twitter
The tweet was initially taken in jest but a few weeks later, the concept was launched and here we are, about to break it all down for you.
In a press briefing held on Friday, AKA unveiled the team that would be assisting him in realising the Fees For All Mega concert.
The T Effect, a digital marketing agency slash production company, will be managing the creative direction of the concert; while Hulisani Ravele, an MC and former YoTV presenter (she went by Cece back then) will manage the event’s program.
All we know, at this time, is that AKA is on the roster to perform on the night. Artists and other important information will be revealed at a later stage.
What is the main objective?
AKA told the media that just like the KFC Couple, their objective is to rally South Africans to assist them in raising R10-to-15-million.
This, he explained, will go towards helping students who have defaulted in tertiary debt, to unblock access to things like registration and graduation.

When is the charity concert?
The rapper made it clear that the charity concert was not affiliated to any political movement. Although, it is well known that Mega’s heart bleeds black, green and gold.
The concert will take place on Saturday, 15 February 2020, at the 13 000-capacity Ticketpro Dome, in Johannesburg.
