The online party model is one way of keeping people at home in these 21 days of total isolation. Eight days into the 21-day lockdown and life in confinement has settled in many people.
No alcohol or cigarette sales are permitted in South Africa. This harsh rule has ushered a wave of cold turkey not seen before in our country’s history.
However, the pain of the withdrawals is numbed by the entertainment we have been gifted with by our assortment of talent.
Since PH and Shimza came up with the idea of an online house party (previously termed the ‘quarantine online party’), more artists and TV networks have joined the trend.
Friday and Saturday are earmarked for this kind of entertainment. We can speculate that this may be a closeted campaign led by the Department of Arts and Culture but we won’t give Minister Nathi Mthethwa all of that credit.
Irrespective of who is involved, the campaign is effective.
