Swizz Beats and Timbalend deserve all the praise for the entertainment they’ve offered us in these trying times. The duo recently confirmed that the next Verzuz battle will be between Rick Ross and 2 Chainz.
Verzuz: Rick Ross takes on 2 Chainz
One might argue that the match-up just doesn’t gel well. Rick Ross, the Maybach Music boss has an extensive catalogue of luscious sounds, the type of music you clink champagne flutes to.
2 Chains, formerly known as Titty Boy, on the other hand, is cut from a rough-textured cloth. His southern music is for the hard knocks who dress in wifebeaters, baggy jeans and durags and have nothing else to do but sell ‘work’ on corner blocks.
Who is favourite to win and who’s the underdog?
However, one can argue that Rick Ross is so diverse, he can pick out a number of records that give off that same feeling. So, the big question is: who comes in as the favourite and who’s the underdog?
There is no easy answer to this and if history has taught us anything, it’s to always give the benefit of the doubt to the one who’s tipped to lose against ‘Goliath’.
Andrew Barber, a renowned Hip-Hop historian, also struggled with this question. Nonetheless, it is difficult to ignore the dynamism of Rick Ross and his extensive music catalogue.
