Johannesburg often experiences a huge outflux in summer.
People who treat the City of Gold for what it is — a mecca of opportunity — head home for the holidays, leaving the perception behind that only ghosts remain in town during the festive season.
Well. not only is that grossly inaccurate, but it is also misinformed. Contrary to popular belief, Johannesburg is quite the vibe in December.
To illustrate our point, we have sourced three events that are taking place in Johannesburg between Sunday, 1 December and Saturday, 7 December.
Johannesburg: Events taking place this week
Sunday Sessions Open-Air at The Good Luck Bar
Kicking off the festive season in Johannesburg is probably the coolest event taking place at The Good Luck Bar/Fox Junctions, in Ferreiras Dorp, on Sunday.
Sunday Sessions Open-Air is a festive season kick-starter, taking place at the courtyard that is shadowed by picturesque industrial architecture.
The line-up includes:
- Nikolai
- TeeCee SA
- Zakes Bantwini (Live)
- Kat La Kat
- Black Lake (Resident)
- Fabian Cioffi (Occhiolism)
Presold tickets are going for an affordable R70 per person.
Festive Foodie Market at Killarney Mall
If the trendy, IG-ready scene is not for you, then the Festive Foodie Market will definitely cater something to your liking.
Taking place from Friday, 6 December, the two-day event will be hosted at the Killarney Mall, in Houghton.
Foodies will enjoy this one, without a doubt. From delish desserts to festive cooking, there will be a lot on offer for the palate to go wild.
There is no entry fee attached to this event. However, you will want to keep a few banknotes for the stall purchases.
1 Fox Christmas Market
The 1Fox Christmas Market will appeal to the mature crowd. The event takes place on Sunday, 7 December.
It promises to have it all; Christmas stalls; Ginologist Gin; Mad Giant Craft Brewery and live entertainment.
The market will be at the 1 Fox Precinct from 10:00 and tickets go for R20,
