Police in the area have not released a statement with more information on the reported prison break. Moreover, our attempts to get comment from authorities in Mokopane were unsuccessful at the time this article was published.
What was Nasheem Mohammad in prison for?
So far, no updates have surfaced on the search for Mohammed and three other fugitives. The Bangladeshi national was denied bail in February 2021 and with piles of evidence linking him to the brutal murders of his wife and daughter, his last resort may have been to break out of prison and go on the run.
Mohammad, a business owner whose lived in Limpopo for more than five years, was arrested in Brixton, Johannesburg, on Thursday 21 January 2021, a week after Chantelle and Baby Tasneem were found dead in a guesthouse near Potgietersrus, Mokopane.
When guesthouse cleaners stumbled on the crime scene the morning after Mohammad and his family had checked on Wednesday 13 January 2021, Chantelle’s naked body was found covered with a blanket next to the bed, her hands bound to the back with cable ties.
Baby Tasneem was found squashed underneath her mother. It’s believed the mom and daughter were strangled to death by the last person seen alive with them — Mohammad.
The accused murderer has contested the charges. However, in an act of pure desperation, it seems his last resort was to escape and avoid going to trial.
Mohammad is believed to be a resourceful man. According to authorities, the family was dropped off by a grey vehicle on the night Chantelle and Tasneem were murdered.
The identity of the vehicle and its owner are still unknown. Mohammad is also a businessman with a network of connections that could easily provide him the resources he needs to flee the country.
At the time this article was published, the alleged family killer was still on the run.
