Investigators in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, are using every resource available to put an end to the terror of an alleged serial rapist that has haunted the town for nine years.

Ekurhuleni serial rapist: What we know about him

Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo revealed, in a statement, that the man believed to be hunting women in Ekurhuleni committed three sexual assaults in the last two weeks.

Moreover, police firmly believe that the man they are looking for has been terrorising women in Benoni, Daveyton, Etwatwa, Putfontein and Crystal Park since 2012 and to-date, he has remained a step ahead of authorities.

A 3D composite sketch of the suspect, who is believed to be in his late 20s, is one of the very few leads investigators have got to work with. This image, which shows the profile of a man believed to be an associate of the suspect, is another piece of evidence police hope will jog someone’s memory.

“Police also believe that a man captured on camera today (Tuesday) in Chief Luthuli informal settlement in Crystal Park, might be able to assist police with information relevant to the investigation,” Capt. Masondo said.

How he targets his victims

The alleged serial rapist shot back up on the police’s radar last week when he sexually assaulted a woman in Etwatwa. A few days later, on Monday 22 February, he struck again, unsuccessful in raping a woman from Crystal Park.

But, it would not be long before he struck yet again a day later in the same area. From the trend of the active rape cases in the region, it’s believed that the suspect targets victims aged between 12 and 20.

Cash reward offered for info on Ekurhuleni serial rapist

Left with no physical evidence or a concrete trail to follow, police have turned to the public for help. A cash reward has been put forward for anyone who has information on the whereabouts of the evasive suspect.

“A cash reward is on offer to anyone who could provide information that could lead to the apprehension and successful prosecution of the suspected serial rapist,” Capt Masondo said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the investigating officer Warrant Officer John Mokoena at 071 675 6166 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
