UPDATE: Eastern Cape police have confirmed that Asemahle Mzimeli has been found and is safe at home.
“She was in Kwazakele with friends,” Colonel Priscilla Naidu noted.
The search for 16-year-old Asemahle Mzimeli has entered its second day and Port Elizabeth authorities are beginning to fear for the worst.
Asemahle Mzimeli: When was she last seen?
The last person to see Mzimeli is her mother. On Wednesday 26 August 2020, at approximately 20:00, the 16-year-old told her mother that she was going to the toilet (in most townships, lavatories are often located in the backyard).
Mzimeli’s mother waited for her daughter to return to the house but she never did.
“She never came back into the house which is in Mokgatho Street NU10 in Motherwell. It is not known what she was wearing at the time,” police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu noted in a statement.

Soon after the teen’s family filed a missing person case at the Motherwell police station, the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit was brought in to lead the search.
What are the latest updates in her search?
Two days into the investigation and authorities have yet to uncover reliable information on the teen’s whereabouts.
Unfortunately, the image provided by the police is the only form of identification that is available for us. At this time, it is not known what Mzimeli was wearing the night she went missing.
“Anyone who can assist police in tracing Ms Mzimeli or may know of her whereabouts is asked to contact D/W/O Sonika Van Der Merwe at Motherwell FCS unit on 071 475 2309 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 or their nearest police station. Tip-Offs can also be shared on the My SAPS App,” the police statement concluded
