Details of the incident are still murky at this stage, with our attempts to get comment from Tembisa police unsuccessful at the time of publishing this article.
However, according to eyewitnesses who were in the area of the Gauteng township at the time of the incident, it’s believed a number of unknown gunmen rammed the Fidelity cash van to a halt and used military-grade explosives to gain access to the vault.
The exact amount that was taken from the cash van is unknown, at this stage.
No information has been made available on whether security escorts suffered injuries in the confrontation and, at this juncture, it is presumed that the suspects are still at large.
