A troubling trend of jewellery store heists
This latest incident marks the third jewellery store heist at East Rand Mall in recent years, pointing to a troubling trend.
In July 2020, armed robbers targeted another jewellery store at the mall, making off with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.
Similarly, in June 2023, a robbery at the same mall saw suspects holding employees at gunpoint before fleeing with stolen goods.
In both cases, gunshots were fired, and the suspects were involved in high-speed chases with law enforcement.
The authorities are continuing their investigations, and additional security measures may be implemented to prevent future occurrences.
