A cyclist from Hermanus, Western Cape, is indebted to his community after his encounter with three suspicious-looking characters was intervened by passers-by.
Hermanus cyclist survives encounter with hecklers
The CCTV footage that captured the attempted robbery suggests that the incident took place at a four-way intersection, on Saturday 12 September 2020, at around 12:53.
In the video, the cyclist was seen riding along the road and as he crossed the intersection, one of the three men paced towards the bicycle and jerked the seat.
This launched the cyclist into a fall that must’ve left a bruise on his thigh. The cyclist’s fight or flight response immediately set in and he opted for the former but he was outnumbered.
Before the situation could get any worse for him, a bakkie driven by a motorist who clearly saw what was about to transpire sped towards one of the suspects, missing them by a few inches.
On the other side of the road, the two suspects were in the clear to run off and so they did. Fortunately, the cyclist was left unharmed and with all of his belongings.
