An electronics store was robbed inside Gateway Mall, in Durban North, by seven suspects who were there for one thing, and one thing only — PS5 consoles.

CCTV footage of the brazen early morning heist surfaced on social media, showing how at least seven suspects, bull-dosed their way into a Game 4 U outlet at approximately 05:22 on the morning of Sunday, 12 June 2022.
It’s unclear how these robbers were allowed passage to smash the store’s entrance door, pile PS5 consoles into a carrier bag, and make it out unscathed without a single attempt of intervention from the mall’s security.
However, it’s evident the Gateway Mall robbery was pulled off by a group of robbers who only had the scarce and highly sought-after Sony PlayStation consoles.
In a statement, Umhlanga CPF spokesperson Darryl Oliver confirmed that the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle that has yet to be identified.
“There was no shootout between security and the perpetrators and at no stage was there any risk to life. They fled in a single vehicle. Two shots were fired by perpetrators in an effort to clear their exit,” Oliver revealed.
The Game 4 U store resumed operations on Monday, and it’s believed that the shop, along with shopping centre management officials, are working with law enforcement authorities in identifying the robbers.
