A Fidelity money truck was held up at an Engen filling station by armed cash-in-transit robbers and the entire ordeal was captured on CCTV.
Cash-in-transit heist in Witkoppen caught on CCTV
On Tuesday, the security cameras of a petrol station in Witkoppen, south of Johannesburg, caught images of the cash-in-transit heist as it happened.
The Fidelity truck had parked near the entrance of the Engen convenient store, supposedly to drop off new stacks of cash for a nearby ATM machine.
However, lurking in the periphery were two vehicles, occupied by armed suspects who bided their time until the security guard opened the canopy of truck.
Sure enough, as you will see in the videos below, the unsuspecting guard punched in the passcode to unlock the rear door that holds heaps of bags filled with cash that is destined for different financial institutions.
Before he knew it, two armed men pounced on him with fully loaded assault rifles pointed at his face. One wrong move and his head would have been blown away, as we have seen many times in these scenarios.
The men entered the canopy of the money truck and hauled out two bags full of cash.
Surprisingly, the armed robbers were in no rush. In this aerial view of the ordeal, a metallic Mercedes-Benz was seen backing into the Fidelity truck, blocking its escape. Two men armed with automatic machine guns were seen exiting the vehicle.
There is no audio in the CCTV footage but you could tell that the instruction to the money truck driver was clear: “make one move and we will unleash hell upon you.
The video ends before we see the suspects speed off with an undisclosed amount of cash. At this time, it remains unclear if the suspects were tracked down and nabbed.
