Watch: Bonteheuwel gang shootout in front of SAPS
Details around the incident are still unknown. Our attempts to get comment from police were unsuccessful. However, sources in the area claim a young boy was allegedly shot on Yellowhood Street.
It’s believed the injury suffered by the teenager prompted retaliation from gangs. Video footage of the shootout, as it took place, surfaced on social media.
In the clip, a number of police vehicles could be seen stationed near the gang shootout with no officer making an attempt to control the unrest.

Has gang violence returned to Bonteheuwel?
The shooting of the young boy is still the subject of an ongoing investigation. At the time this article was published, it was not confirmed if the victim survived the attack.
Residents from the area have been warned to practice extreme levels of caution and, as much as possible, avoid Yellowhood Street where the gang shooting took place on Sunday night.
At this time, it is unclear if the shooting is, in any way, related to the murder of a 38-year-old Dixie Boys gang leader whose life was viciously taken in September 2021.
“The threat of retaliation shooting is extremely high at this point in time and residents are requested to be extremely vigilant and cautious,” ward councillor Angus McKenzie said at the time.
The 38-year-old’s murder remains unsolved with no suspects nabbed. Also, no suspects were arrested for Sunday night’s shooting.
