Homicide investigators in Vosloorus have filed murder charges against a 32-year-old man who is believed to be responsible for the death of his girlfriend.
Vosloorus haunted by death of young mom
According to police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele, detectives are confident in their case against the man, whose identity has not yet been released.
The victim’s mother reported her missing on Saturday 16 January, six days after she left her home in Alexandra, to spend time with her boyfriend and father of their two-year-old child in Vosloorus, a township situated in the south side of Boksburg.
The victim being gone for multiple days was not unordinary. However, suspicion grew when the boyfriend, after a check-in from the victim’s mother, claimed that the woman only spent one night at his place and left on Monday 11 January.
Cat-and-mouse chase ends in boyfriend’s arrest
Police began tracing the victim’s movements and before long, her vehicle was tracked down to a location 16km away from Vosloorus where she was last seen, in Alberton.
“The person found in possession of the victim’s car led the police to the boyfriend who sold the car to him,” Captain Makhubele revealed.
Faced with the damning evidence, the boyfriend admitted to killing his girlfriend. Shortly after he had committed the crime, it was discovered that he drove the victim’s body about 28km to Heidelberg where he “dumped her in an open space.”
Turns out, on the Monday the suspect claimed he last saw his girlfriend, her body was discovered by Heidelberg police and a case of murder had been registered and she was tagged as a Jane Doe.
With an airtight case, the matter now rests with the public prosecutor. The 32-year-old male is expected to appear at the Gershon Magistrates Court soon to register his murder charge.
The only missing piece to this gobsmacking case is motive which remains unknown.
