Durban law enforcement authorities are investigating a drive-by shooting that took place at Umhlanga Ridge, near the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, on Thursday morning.
Umhlanga Ridge drive-by shooting leaves one dead
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), a private security firm, were called out to Meridian Drive, at approximately 10:24, after residents heard a series of gunfire ringing aloud in the quaint and usually peaceful suburb.
“On arrival, it was established that the driver of a white Toyota Corolla Cross had been shot while seated in his vehicle. He was declared deceased by Paramedics from Netcare 911. His vehicle was shot multiple times. Several rifle cartridges were recovered at the scene,” RUSA noted in a statement.
Durban police have, at this time, not returned to our requests for comment on the case. Therefore, it’s presumed the suspects involved in the brazen murder are still at large.
At this juncture, speculation is rife about what could have led to the shooting. All indications suggest that the victim was specifically targeted in the ambush and, more than likely, they may have had a price on their head.
The motive, as things stand, remains unknown.
