The Western Cape Missing Persons Unit is about a day into its search for three school pupils who went missing in the notorious gang-infested Mitchells Plain.
Mitchells Plain missing girls: What we know
According to details provided in a missing person poster that has been doing the rounds on social media, Sarah Abdullatief, Ayanda Dzikira and Rishquah Brenner were pupils of Cedar High School, in Rocklands.
The last time the three girls were seen alive was on Thursday afternoon. Reports suggest that the pupils were seen leaving the school premises wearing black track pants and black, white and turqoise school jackets.
No further information has been furnished by authorities at this stage. It is thus our presumption that the girls are still missing.
Worries have mounted over the safety of the girls, considering the climate of gender-based violence in South Africa.
Moreover, Mitchells Plain, a Cape Flats settlement in the Western Cape, is infamous for stray deaths due to rampant gang violence and excessive drug abuse.
Here’s what to do if you have helpful information
it is the hope of the family and authorities that the girls will be found alive and well.
