Tafelsig teens targeted in brazen mass shooting
In a tragic incident on Wednesday night, 15-year-old Whitney Davids and a 24-year-old man known only as Junaid were fatally shot in what police believe was a gang-related attack on Bainskloof Street.
The suspects approached the group of four on foot and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
A 16-year-old boy and another individual were also injured during the shooting and are currently receiving medical treatment
The shooting has left the community reeling, with many questioning the safety of the area.
The Anticrime group Community Response Team (CRT) expressed outrage over the incident, calling it “a shocking display of brutality.”
“We demand that SAPS and the government act immediately and forcefully to address this crisis. Our children are being slaughtered, and it is imperative that those responsible face justice without delay,” the anticrime group said.
Cape Town police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that investigators are currently probing the motive behind the shooting, which has not yet been determined.
No arrests have been made, and the suspects remain at large.
While the exact motive is still under investigation, police believe the attack may be linked to ongoing gang violence in the area.
Gang-related shootings have become increasingly common in Mitchells Plain, with rival factions often targeting young people.
This shooting follows a similar incident in Hanover Park over the weekend, where several young people were shot, leading to three deaths.
The increase in violence has raised concerns about a possible connection between these incidents. The CRT has called for immediate and decisive action from authorities to curb the violence and bring those responsible to justice.
“We condemn these attacks in the strongest terms and insist on relentless pursuit of the criminals involved,” the group called.
