Shayhieda Dollie makes first court appearance for son’s alleged murder
According to the State’s accusations, Dollie allegedly orchestrated the killing of her 22-year-old son, Moegamat Thaafir Dollie, in a scheme reportedly motivated by a R2 million life insurance payout.
The premeditated murder, which occurred on 28 October 2024, is said to have been meticulously planned over several months.
Prosecutors detailed how Dollie, struggling to cope with her son’s reported drug addiction and behavioural issues at home, allegedly sought advice from associates who suggested a “permanent solution” to her troubles.
The State claims that Dollie collaborated with two individuals, identified only as “Shaun” and “Oompie,” who helped her connect with professional hitmen from Johannesburg.
Initially, Dollie is alleged to have offered R80,000 for the contract killing, but delays in executing the plan reportedly saw this amount increase to R380,000.
In the alleged plot, Dollie reportedly told her son that she had arranged a job interview for him, a ruse to lure him away from home.
The hired hitmen then picked up Moegamat Thaafir under the pretence of taking him to this supposed interview, ultimately leading him to his death.
Investigators suspect that the payout from the life insurance policy was intended to cover the cost of the hired killers.
During her court appearance, Dollie appeared subdued as the details of her alleged involvement were read out.
Prosecutors indicated that the State will oppose bail, citing the severity of the charges and the premeditated nature of the alleged crime.
Authorities are also verifying Dollie’s profile and background as part of their ongoing investigation.
The case has been adjourned until Friday, 15 November 2024 to allow for these checks, and prosecutors are expected to present additional details in the coming hearings.
