Roezayg Butler: Missing teen found in mortuary
His body was discovered in a Goodwood morgue, with multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head.
Roezayg was last seen on the evening of Thursday, 3 October 2024, after leaving his grandmother’s house to meet a friend.
His family received a message that same night, informing them that he would be staying over at a friend’s home.
However, when he failed to return the following day, concern grew, and a search was launched.
Days of uncertainty and distress turned into devastation when the family received a call from the police, informing them of the grim discovery.
Roezayg’s body had been found in the early hours of 4 October at the N1 off-ramp near the N7 in Goodwood.
Medical personnel confirmed his death at the scene, and it was determined that he had been shot multiple times.
Family members expressed their deep sorrow, yet took solace in knowing he was “safe with our Creator.”
One relative described Roezayg as a well-mannered boy who, despite being mischievous like many teens, did not associate with gangs or bad influences.
Captain FC Van Wyk, a spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), confirmed that the case is under investigation by the Bishop Lavis Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.
The motive for the attack remains unclear at this time, but it forms part of an ongoing investigation.
