These Riet River women are wanted for robbery
The suspects reportedly approached the pensioner in his yard on Mungal Road, using personal knowledge of his late wife to disarm him and gain entry into his home.
According to a statement from Reaction Unit SA, the women, both dressed in Indian traditional attire and wearing masks, struck up a conversation with the elderly man, referencing his late wife by name.
This familiarity seemingly eased the man’s suspicions, and he invited them inside, offering refreshments.
Once inside, the suspects insisted on preparing tea for themselves and the man.
Unbeknownst to him, they allegedly spiked his drink.
“After consuming the tea, the victim lost consciousness,” Reaction Unit SA stated.
He later awoke several hours afterwards, only to find multiple belongings missing, including a cellphone, cash, clothing, and household items.
The two women were captured on CCTV footage as they left the property carrying two bags filled with stolen goods.
Their masked faces and traditional attire concealed their identities, and it remains unclear whether they left on foot or in a vehicle.
The women’s method — referencing a deeply personal detail about the man’s family — has raised concerns among local residents. Authorities warn the public, especially older residents, to exercise caution when approached by strangers, even those appearing friendly or familiar.
Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities are hopeful the CCTV footage will aid in identifying and apprehending the suspects.
