Nachy Britz: North West woman gets 15 years for fraud
According to the court, Britz was found guilty of two counts of fraud, with each count resulting in a 15-year prison sentence that will run concurrently.
This conviction marks a significant conclusion to the investigation led by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team, which traced Britz’s actions spanning from 2016 to 2018.
In her scheme, Britz posed as a businesswoman specialising in luxury car imports from the United States.
She persuaded two victims to invest large sums, including R2.9 million from one victim for Ford Mustangs and Harley Davidson motorcycles, and R800,000 from another who became a business partner.
However, she failed to deliver the vehicles and instead offered periodic updates through various email accounts to maintain her deception.
When her victims demanded refunds, Britz could only partially repay some clients, leading some to drop their charges, though she left two victims with significant financial losses.
“We welcome the sentencing and commend the investigation and prosecution team for their work,” the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster noted in a statement.
