Controversial blogger Musa Khawula appeared in the Fochville Magistrate’s Court on Friday for an attempted murder charge dating back to February 2021.
Cases pile on as Musa Khawula appears for attempted murder
Khawula, 33, is currently in custody for cyberbullying allegations involving businessman Ze Nxumalo and has an ongoing murder case from 2022.
The 2021 incident unfolded near Mponeng Mine in the West Rand, where Khawula allegedly bumped a man with his car and fled the scene without rendering assistance.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, Khawula was standing partially unclothed by his Volkswagen Polo on private property when the complainant and his wife confronted him.
Following a heated exchange, Khawula reportedly drove away, executed a U-turn, and struck the complainant, leaving him injured. A community policing forum member discovered the injured man and alerted authorities. Khawula was arrested shortly after at a nearby tavern.
Khawula initially received bail but failed to appear in court twice, leading to its forfeiture.
He was rearrested in January 2023, and additional charges, including reckless driving and failing to report the accident, were added. His next court appearance is scheduled for 5 February 2025 for a bail application.
In addition to his attempted murder case, Khawula faces charges of crimen injuria, violating the Cyber Crimes Act, and hate speech.
These charges stem from social media posts targeting Nxumalo and his wife, former Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green.
Khawula had alleged Nxumalo’s infidelity and claimed he was being silenced through fake e-wallet payments.
Although he later retracted his claims and issued a public apology, the posts resulted in legal action.
Khawula was also jailed for contempt of court in 2022 after refusing to apologise for separate allegations involving ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula’s wife.
Khawula is also accused of murdering his former partner, Wandile Wayne Khambule, in March 2022.
Reports suggest Khawula and Khambule were romantically involved and had relocated to Cape Town for a fresh start.
According to an anonymous source, their relationship became strained when Khambule developed a romantic interest in another woman.
On the day of the murder, Khambule was reportedly stabbed multiple times following an altercation.
The case remains on the court roll in Cape Town.
