Gossip blogger Musa Khawula appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court today for his crimen injuria case linked to businessman Zesidumise ‘Ze’ Nxumalo.
Musa Khawula opts to remain in custody
During the brief hearing, Khawula opted to abandon his bail application, meaning he will remain in custody until his next court appearance on 18 February 2025.
Khawula faces multiple charges under the Cyber Crimes Act, including hate speech and defamation.
The case stems from social media posts in which he made allegations about Nxumalo’s personal life, including claims of infidelity involving the businessman’s wife, former Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green.
He later retracted his statements and issued a public apology, but legal proceedings continued.
The 33-year-old social media personality has been in custody since his arrest on 19 January 2025.
Musa Khawula’s ongoing legal battles
Khawula’s legal troubles extend beyond the crimen injuria case. He is also facing charges related to a 2021 attempted murder incident near Mponeng Mine in the West Rand.
Prosecutors allege that Khawula, partially unclothed at the time, was confronted by a couple on private property.
Following a verbal altercation, he drove away but returned moments later, striking the complainant with his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The victim was later found by a community policing forum member, and authorities arrested Khawula at a nearby tavern.
Initially granted bail, he failed to appear in court twice, leading to his rearrest in January 2023.
Additional charges of reckless driving and failing to report an accident were added to his case. For this matter, he is due in court again on 5 February 2025 for a bail hearing.
Khawula is also linked to a murder case from 2022. He is accused of fatally stabbing his former partner, Wandile Wayne Khambule, during an altercation in Cape Town.
Reports suggest their relationship had become strained after Khambule developed a romantic interest in another person. The case remains active in the Cape Town courts.
Aside from these charges, Khawula was jailed for contempt of court in 2022 after refusing to apologise for separate defamation claims involving ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula’s wife.
With multiple cases pending, Khawula remains in police custody as legal proceedings continue.
