The Midrand community is reeling in utter dismay after a dead woman was found inside her bullet-riddled car, on Wednesday.

Midrand woman ambushed in her car: Here are the latest updates

Details around the gory sighting are still unclear at this time. For instance, police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello confirmed authorities at this time are still processing the crime scene and, more importantly, tracing information on the identity and background of the victim, a female victim aged 38-year-old.

The woman was found inside a Hyundai i20. If the vehicle was registered in her name, this will give police a head-start in determining how and why she ended up on the side of a road in Olifantsfontein with a torso torn to shreds by high-calibre ammunition.

Unverified reports claim an unidentified man allegedly walked up to the woman and emptied the cartridge before casually walking away from the murder scene.

“An African woman was behind the steering wheel with gunshot wounds on her upper body. She was certified dead on the scene by the paramedics,” the police noted in a statement.

This early into the murder investigation, the motive is, as yet, unknown. Homicide detectives assigned to this case will surely want to know what led to this tragic ending for the Midrand woman. Not only will this information be crucial in identifying the perpetrators, but it will be a step toward closure for the victim’s family.

This is a developing story.
