Meadowlands McDonald’s robbery ends in horror for family
The incident unfolded around 22:20 when three suspects entered the fast-food restaurant and began robbing customers and staff.
The armed men reportedly stole cash from the tills and personal belongings from patrons, including mobile phones.
Amid the chaos, a family of three—arriving at the drive-through—became unintended victims of the violence.
As the family attempted to reverse their vehicle upon noticing suspicious activity, one of the suspects approached them at gunpoint.
Phones were taken from the parents before the assailant fired at the car as they drove away.
The boy, seated in the back seat, was struck by the gunfire. His parents, initially unaware of his injury, rushed him to Primrose Hospital after realising he was hurt.
Tragically, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The suspects fled the scene before authorities arrived and remain at large.
Police are actively investigating the case, with security companies assisting by reviewing surveillance footage.
Law enforcement has appealed to the public for any information that could help identify and locate the culprits.
The Meadowdale McDonald’s outlet has been temporarily closed since the incident.
The fast-food chain has confirmed that employees who were present during the robbery are receiving trauma counselling.
