Dawn Park mass murder investigation: Here’s what we know
Local authorities were called to the gory scene at approximately 06:00 on Wednesday morning after commuters travelling along the railway lines that cut between Windmill Park and Ethembeni Park made the gruesome discovery of six bodies strewn along the train tracks.
In a statement, Gauteng police confirmed that a team was dispatched to the scene and upon arrival, four of the six victims were declared dead.
Miraculously, two victims showed faint signs of life and for medics, a chance to save lives still existed. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for life-saving treatment.
Back at the scene, detectives were left with a trove of forensic evidence to collect, albeit the team handling the mass murder case has, thus far, remained mum about what they know so far.
However, if we had to speculate (responsibly, of course), it’s possible authorities are, at the very least, close to identifying the victims, and this makes for a solid lead in determining their fates, in the crucial First 48.
This early into the case, it’s unknown how the victims were killed. Local police only described the incident as four victims killed after sustaining ‘multiple’ injuries.
Motive is also unknown at this stage.
Gauteng SAPS’ media team is expected to release a statement soon, hopefully with more information to aid the manhunt.
Chillingly, the suspects involved in the Dawn Park mass murder are presumably still at large.
