Five-year-old shot in the head in crossfire shooting
The incident occurred on Irvine Street at approximately 18:45, where the victims were caught in the crossfire of a gang-related turf war.
Eyewitnesses report that the boy was walking with his father towards a tuckshop when gunfire erupted.
Stray bullets hit two women, aged 31 and 54, who were seated outside a nearby house. The child attempted to run to safety but collapsed after being struck in the head by a bullet.
The young boy remains in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head, while the two women sustained injuries to the thigh and lower back.
All three victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
The suspects fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a devastated community. Police have since opened a case of attempted murder, with three counts under investigation.
Manenberg has been gripped by ongoing gang violence, with rival groups like the Americans, IGB, and Hard Livings reportedly battling for control over turf.
Monday’s shooting is the latest in a string of incidents that have left residents fearing for their lives.
While the motive for this particular shooting remains unclear, sources suggest it is tied to the escalating feud among these gangs.
