A fatal shooting at a taxi rank in Delft, Cape Town, on Thursday morning has left the community reeling.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was shot in the head by unknown assailants in what is suspected to be a premeditated hit.
The incident occurred at the Palm Taxi Rank during the early hours.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the shooting was sudden and precise.
“Seeing a dead body in the early hours at Palm Taxi Rank. Delft for you!” said a bystander who witnessed the gruesome aftermath.
SAPS homicide units arrived promptly at the scene to investigate.
By the time of reporting, the area was partially cordoned off, with officers gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. The taxi rank remained operational, and nearby businesses continued trading despite the crime scene nearby.
The details surrounding the shooting remain unclear. Law enforcement sources have suggested that the manner of the attack points to a targeted hit, but no official confirmation has been provided.
Cape Town SAPS spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana confirmed in a statement to Swisher Post that “the circumstances surrounding this shooting incident are still under investigation.”
“Delft police are investigating a case of murder following a shooting incident in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, 2025-01-16) in Delft Main Road near Palm Street. Police members responded to the crime where upon arrival they found the body of an unknown man with gunshot wounds sustained to his body. The victim was declared as deceased at the scene by the medical personnel. The motive behind this incident forms part of an ongoing investigation,” the statement read.
