A man, reportedly a businessman, was shot and killed outside Today’s Destiny Logistics in Witbank, Mpumalanga, in what appears to be a targeted hit.
UPDATE: Following our initial reports of a murder, Mpumalanga authorities returned to our requests for comment a day later with new information, indicating that the victim, now identified as Maxwell Mlangeni survived the ambush and is currently recovering in hospital.
What we know about the shooting outside Today’s Destiny Logistics
The attack, which took place on Tuesday afternoon, was captured on camera by eyewitnesses who witnessed the victim being ambushed by multiple gunmen.
Authorities have not yet identified the victim, but sources claim he was the owner of the trucking company, which has ties to both municipal and private sector contracts in Mpumalanga and beyond.
The victim was driving a custom Ferrari F8 at the time of the attack, adding to speculation that the shooting may have been linked to business dealings.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and cordoned off the area to collect shell casings and other forensic evidence.
Law enforcement officials are reviewing security footage from businesses along Bethal Street in an effort to piece together the events leading up to the shooting and identify the perpetrators.
As authorities work to identify the shooters, scrutiny has also fallen on Today’s Destiny Logistics itself.
A review of the company’s website has raised red flags, as the listed executives—Thomas Moyo (General Manager), Samanta Willaian, and Gina Kennedy as (Co-Founders & CEOs)—appear to have no verifiable public presence.
The images used to identify them are stock photos, and their names do not correspond to any known business records.
The discovery has fuelled speculation about the nature of the business and whether it played a role in the attack.
Investigators are expected to look into the company’s dealings as part of their probe into the shooting.
