Members of the Johannesburg Central SAPS Motor Bike Squad witnessed the incident and gave chase as the suspects attempted to flee the scene.
During the pursuit, the suspects opened fire on the officers, prompting police to retaliate.
One suspect was fatally wounded in the exchange, while the remaining four managed to evade arrest.
Police recovered a firearm and the stolen laptop from the suspects’ vehicle.
