Limpopo officer arrested for killing wife and domestic worker
The officer had been on the run following the incident, evading authorities until a coordinated police operation led to his arrest on Thursday, 31 October 2024.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the suspect was located in the Makuya area, driving at high speed along Tshitavha Road near the Sambandou bridge.
When officers attempted to stop him, the sergeant reportedly opened fire, prompting a return of gunfire.
The suspect was wounded in the exchange, and one police officer sustained minor injuries.
A service pistol and ammunition were recovered from the scene, and both the suspect and the injured officer were taken to a hospital for treatment.
The suspect, now facing two counts of murder and an additional charge of attempted murder for the attack on police officers, was expected to appear in the Masisi Magistrate’s Court, on Friday.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the swift response of the Vhembe SAPS team, assuring the public that the case would be closely monitored to ensure justice.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified and will oversee the case given the involvement of a police office.
