Khayelitsha police are investigating a mass shooting that took place on Sunday, 22 May 2022, the third of its kind this year alone.
Khayelitsha mass shooting: What happened in Ekuphumleni?
In a statement, police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa confirmed the investigation into the triple murder that took place on Lindelwa Street, in Ekuphumleni, on Sunday evening, was handed over to a task team of organised crime detectives.
From what we understand, authorities were called to a house on the abovementioned street after a series of gunshots were heard. When police arrived at the scene, the bodies of three victims, two males and a female, were found strewn across the floor.
Information coming from the crime scene confirmed the victims were siblings aged between 51 and 57.
The suspects responsible for the mass shooting wore dark clothes and it’s believed, they caught the siblings off guard.
At this time, no eyewitnesses have come forward with useful information and all detectives have to work on are the shell casings found at the crime scene, and other forensic evidence.
Moreover, it remains unclear if this mass shooting is, in any way, connected to the Site C massacre that took place earlier in May, where six victims were gunned down on the corner of Maphongwana and Idada Street.
My sources tell me they have counted over five bodies on the ground. The shooting happened this evening in Khayelitsha Site C. Police are yet to confirm the number of fatalities. It is not yet clear what really happened here pic.twitter.com/Z8BrN3zhPo

“The detectives are currently pursuing several leads as part of the investigation into the shooting incident. No arrests have been effected yet,” Potelwa noted in a statement.
This is a developing story.
