Johannesburg (JHB) law enforcement authorities have dealt drug cartels a huge ‘blow’ after a large shipment of cocaine was intercepted in Aeroton, on Friday.
JHB cocaine seizure: Five officers arrested
SAPS’ crime intelligence unit, from what we understand, was at the centre of the massive takedown that took place in the JHB suburb.
Authorities have yet to issue a statement with details on the intel operation that led to this prominent seizure but according to renowned reporter Yusuf Abramjee, a black bakkie carrying plastic bags filled to the brim with cocaine bricks was intercepted in Aeroton and at least five police officers have been arrested.
It’s believed trace operations have commenced to link the origins of the large consignment, said to be valued at tens of millions of rand, but early indications suggest that the cocaine came from Brazil.
The five police officers charged with cocaine trafficking will likely appear before a court of law next week. We have yet to make confirmation but our understanding is that there is a growing belief that more public servants may have been involved in the movement of this large consignment.
It remains unclear, at this stage, where the cocaine was headed.
